Development and Maintenance

We are delighted that the club has been successful in securing two separate supports from local government during 2011.

We have been awarded a capital grant of €4,000 by Waterford County Council which will offset the cost of resurfacing courts 3 & 4. Weather permitting this work will be completed by mid March. Members should be aware that for a number of weeks these courts will not be available for play.

Also, we have been fortunate to have been able to employ Martin O’ Rourke as a part time grounds keeper. Martin has been placed with us through the Tus program which is administered by the Waterford Sports Partnership.  I think you will all agree that the club has been looking great since his arrival. On behalf of us all the committee would like to welcome Martin to our club and thank him the difference he is making.

Members have hopefully also noticed an improvement in the lights and fewer dark spots on courts. New bulbs and capacitors have been fitted and the lenses have been cleaned in recent weeks.

Membership

Membership in 2011 is down slightly on the previous year and remains open for junior, senior and family members.  Application forms can be downloaded from our website.

Senior Ladders

Both singles and mixed ladders are up and running with 70 people currently playing the mixed and 48 the singles. A different partner is provided each month for the doubles ladder and both ladders provide a great way for new and old members to meet and play. The current mixed ladder is finishing on Saturday December 17th and the singles ladder has just been updated to run until January 30th. Anyone wishing to join either ladder please put your name on the sheet in the clubhouse.

Junior Group Coaching

The Winter Group Coaching Term ran from September to end of November with 96 juniors participating. Coaching is run by our 2 club coaches Willie Reynolds and Patrick McGrath. Ages of participants ranged from 4 - 16 years and coaching is carried out in groups of 4 - 6. The next coaching term starts in January and anyone interested in attending should give the details into the office. The Coaching Christmas Event was on Saturday 10th December when certificates for the term were given out as well as some tennis and fun!

Junior Activities

The Junior Ladder is up and running.  Anyone wishing to join the ladder should give their details to Eoin or Craig in the office. Emma Maguire (Regional Coach) is hoping to organise an interclub ladder.  This will give Juniors from clubs in the region an opportunity to play each other and gain good match practice. More details will be posted on the noticeboard and website as they become available.

The U10 Social Tennis will continue on Saturday mornings 11:00am – 12:30pm for the foreseeable future. The 10+ Social Tennis has moved to Friday afternoons from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in an attempt to facilitate more juniors.

We hope to run a Fun Event in the New Year for adults and children.  Children must be 6th Class and older and will be paired with an adult. This is a great opportunity to burn off those Christmas calories!!!  Please check noticeboard and website for details.

Junior Results

Our Junior Club Teams continue to do well in the Munster Competitions. Our U12’s were beaten in a tough semi final while our U14’s were beaten in a close run quarter final. Well done to all who participated.

Well done also to the boys and girls of Holy Cross who represented their school in the Munster Schools Competition. One girls team and two boys teams were entered with one of the boys teams making the final where they were narrowly beaten in a Championship tiebreak.  The girls also made it to the final and were beaten in a very competitive match.

Tramore hosted the U12 Regional Matchplays in November and many of our Juniors participated and qualified for the Provincials.  Congratulations to all of those who participated – it was great to see so many of our Juniors doing so well.  Well done in particular to Morgan Lohan U16, Caoimhe Duffy Niblock U12 & Eleanor Power U12 who qualified for the Nationals in December.

And finally ...

We look forward to seeing you at the AGM in February, details of which will be posted out to you in the new year. In the meantime we wish all our members a very happy Christmas and a fun filled year in 2012.

And remember ‘To err is human, to put the blame on someone else is doubles’.
